MONROE, La. – Wins by four Warhawk pairs sealed the deal as the ULM Sand Volleyball team cruised past UAB, 4-1 Thursday afternoon at the Sand Volleyball Complex.
The Warhawks improve to 2-1 on the young season and 3-1 all-time against the Blazers (0-2).
Sophomores Taylor Zaeske and Kaitlyn Shearer stayed undefeated after beating Becca Howard and Avi Logoleo 21-10, 21-7 at the No. 5 slot to get the scoring started.
“Today we started out on fire,” head coach David Fischer said. “Taylor is picking up this game really fast. She's ultra-competitive and she brings out nothing but beast mode in Kaitlyn.”
At the No. 4 slot, Bayleigh Hoffman and Hadley Swartz made it two sets to none with back-to-back 21-19 triumphs.
“Bayleigh took care of a lot of nice siding out,” Fischer added. “She and Hadley took over the match and put us in a nice position up 2-0.”
No. 2 duo Hope Pawlik and Katie Lindstrom picked up their first dual of the season after knocking off Ally Slaugter and Leslie Ekpe 21-14, 19-21, 15-11 to clinch the victory for ULM.
Top team Marcela Araya and Michelle McNamee stayed perfect on the year after topping UAB's Bethanie Thomas and Kiriana Hirini, 21-14, 21-14.
“Marcela has been doing it for a while at the ones and she sets the tone for the whole squad,” Fischer said. “Michelle has done a fantastic job stepping into the role like she owns it. They are clicking.”
Rachel Arnason and Celine Flores kept the winning going with an easy, 21-13, 21-9, triumph over Emma Shroer and Haley Jared.
ULM will travel down to Coconut Beach to play a pair of matches at the Tulane Pelican Classic. The Warhawks will clash against No. 17 Tulane at 1 p.m. before taking on Spring Hill College at 5 p.m.
