Box Score FORT WALTON, Fla. – The ULM tennis team took control of the match early as they snatched the doubles point which allowed them to cruise to a 4-1 victory over Troy on Sunday afternoon in their first conference match of the season at the Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center.
“Team came together today and we had the best performance of the season and beat a good Troy team,” said head coach Terrence De Jongh. “Proud of the girls, but we still need to keep working hard.”
ULM clinched the doubles point as Sophie Ruyikiri and Petra Horakova defeated Linnea Skymberg and Jaiyun Xue 8-5, while Letha Gaigher and Amy Olivier topped Sanae Ohta and Brooke Durden 8-6. Anandhi Botha and Beata Kull fell to Troy's Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh 8-3.
In singles, Gaigher captured a 6-3, 6-3 singles victory over Albuquerque on court six and Rufyikiri won a dominating 6-2, 6-1 contest against Ohta on court two to extend ULM's advantage.
Olivier dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Huynh on court one, while Horakova's contest against Cosovic was retired to extend the junior's win streak to 10 matches.
The Warhawks will remain in Fort Walton, Fla. to face Mercer tomorrow at Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center. The time is TBA.
