Box Score NEW ORLEANS – Following an overnight rain delay that caused the doubles matches to be pushed to Sunday morning, the ULM tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to No. 1 seeded South Alabama in the semifinals of the SBC Tournament at City Park Tennis Center.
With this match, the Warhawks complete their season with a 15-7 record. South Alabama improves to 20-2 overall.
The singles matches were played on Saturday afternoon. Petra Horakova topped Monica Mitta 6-3, 6-0 on court one. The Warhawks then took a 2-0 lead as Sophie Rufyikiri completed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Cinta Maria Papke on court four.
Amy Olivier battled hard, but fell in a three-set, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 match against Laura Valkova on court one. Letha Gaigher was then overcome by Laura Matuskova 6-1, 6-0 as the Jaguars tied the match at 2-2.
Jana Duhanova defeated Mary Angela Martin 6-3, 6-0 to give ULM a 3-2 lead, but Caitlin Herb dropped a three-set heartbreaker 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 on court three to bring the two teams to the doubles matches.
South Alabama then captured the doubles point on Sunday morning as Martin and Michaela Meszarosova defeated Duhanova and Olivier 6-1 on court two, while Mitta and Paula Sanchez topped Gaigher and Herb 6-2 on court three.
