TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The ULM Sand Volleyball downed Carson Newman, 5-0, before falling to No. 5 Florida State, 4-1, in the second match of a doubleheader Tuesday at the FSU Sand Volleyball Courts.
Game 1
ULM (10-5) flat out dominated the first match with a flawless showing against Carson-Newman (1-14).
Hope Pawlik and Katie Lindstrom took care of business on the second court with a 21-10, 21-15 triumph.
At the No. 3 slot, Hadley Swartz and Bayleigh Hoffman pushed past Kristina Hill and Lauren Santarelli, 21-13, 21-13 for the win.
Alannah Cullum and Claire Crossfield scored a 21-14, 21-18 victory, while Kaitlyn Shearer and Taylor Zaeske collected a 21-14, 21-12 win.
Game 2
The Warhawks picked up their lone point against FSU (11-4) at the top spot.
“FSU at home is obviously tough,” head coach David Fischer said. “A couple of our pairs really battled.
On the verge of defeat, Marcela Araya and Michelle McNamee battled back to break the shutout. The No. 1 duo rallied from behind to grab a 23-21 second set to continue the match. They did the same thing in the final set to complete a 18-16 third set.
“Marcela and Michelle were down in every set, but they kept their heads on their shoulders,” said Fischer. “Coming back from 10-6 in the third set against FSU's top pair is no easy task, yet they pulled it off.”
At the sixth slot, Rachel Arnason and Celine Flores went back-and-forth in the second stanza before falling 23-21.

The Warhawks return to the sand this weekend when six ULM duos compete at the Siesta at Fiesta pairs tournament at Siesta Key Beach, Fla. The two day event will get going Saturday morning as 166 total teams are expected to play.
