MONROE, La. – Quick times and heavy hitting earned Isaac Ndirangu and Hope Pawlik from the ULM cross country and volleyball programs Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Ndirangu, a freshman, tallied a fourth place finish out of 47 runners on Saturday morning at the Mook Invitational at the Louisiana Tech Farm. He stopped the clock at 21:12.9 in the four mile run.
It marked his second consecutive top-four finish for the newcomer as he won his first collegiate meet at the Southern Miss Invitational to open the season. The Nakuru, Rift Valley, Kenya native guided the Warhawks to a second-place overall team finish on Saturday after a first-place team finish at Southern Miss.
Pawlik, a native of Willis, Texas, converted back-to-back double-doubles while ULM stretched its winning streak to four after its two-game road trip this past week. She fired 10 kills and dug 12 balls in a five-set victory over Georgia Southern before smashing a career-high 23 kills in addition to 10 digs in another come-from-behind five setter versus UAB.
The fifth set is where Pawlik really shined this past week, firing a team-high seven kills on a .636 attacking percentage among the two matches in the final stanzas, including a 4-for-5 (.800) performance in ULM's most recent match at UAB.
Pawlik led the Warhawks offensively during their two-game stretch with 33 total kills at a rate of 3.3 kills per set. The junior outside hitter also proved her value as a top notch serve-receiver, converting on 41-of-42 (98 percent) of serve-receives. Pawlik also added 22 digs, five blocks and two aces on the week.
It marked the third career Warhawk of the Week award for Pawlik and her second in a row.
