CONWAY, Ark. – Tiffany Mylonas became the third Warhawk to win a flight in the fall season's first two tournaments when she swept through her bracket Saturday at the UCA Invitational.
The freshman from Brussels won her first match 6-0, 6-0 on Friday and picked up from there on Saturday with a 6-0, 7-6 win over Chunan Xiang (UCA). She then faced off with Julie Guaguery and dropped her in a 6-1, 6-2 win for the title.
Herb had a perfect semifinal start to her day. She won it 6-0, 6-0 over Chiari Stefanov of Arkansas State, but dropped an absolute heartbreaker 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 to Marli Van Heerden (UCA) in the championship match on Van Heerden's home court.
Guaguery had gone up against ULM's Ioana Popescu in the semifinals, who was previously undefeated in singles play. The Sugar Bear got the best of the Warhawk with a 6-4, 7-5 decision.
The doubles tandem of Popescu and Petra Horakova fell when Van Heerden and Xilia Chulan Xiang (UCA) won an 8-5 battle in the finals of Doubles Flight 1. Xiang also toppled Popescu in their consolation match in the Flight 1 Singles Draw.
Mylonas' flight victory marked the third consecutive tournament that ULM had a winner in dating back to last spring.
The Warhawks return to action on Oct. 8 for the four-day Baylor Fall Tennis Tournament in Waco, Texas.
