Tuscaloosa, Al. – The ULM tennis team had a strong start Friday in the ITA Southern Regionals in Tuscaloosa, with Stefana Andrei beating two SEC opponents both ranked in the top 30.
NOTABLES
-Andrei highlighted the day for ULM as she won a pair of matches against Alabama and Mississippi State. She first won over Alabama 6-3, 6-3 before taking down Mississippi State in a tight three-setter 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Andrei will now move onto tomorrow against Tulane.
-Tiffany Mylonas dropped a tough 2-6,3-6 match to Mississippi State to start her day before moving to the consolation bracket where she was able to defeat Northwestern State 6-1,6-2. Mylonas moves on the consolation bracket and will face Southern Miss on Saturday.
-Ioana Popescu, in the B singles main draw, won a pair of matches on Friday against Nicholls and Jacksonville State. She beat Nicholls 6-0, 6-0 and then defeated Jacksonville 6-1, 7-6(3). She will face UL-Lafayette on Saturday in the B singles draw.
-The Warhawks team of Petra Horakova and Andrei advanced into round two of the doubles draw via a Bye. They will face Troy on Saturday.
