MONROE, La. – Brandon Bell threw his way to a Warhawk Male of Week award from the ULM baseball program, and Adriunna Brown both sprinted and leaped toward a Warhawk Female of the Week accolade from the track & field team, announced Tuesday.
Bell logged his first quality start and first win of 2016 after tossing seven strong innings against No. 26 Dallas Baptist on Sunday afternoon. The redshirt-senior scattered six hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out three batters as he tied a career-high with seven innings of work.
Against the Patriots, Bell allowed one hit or less in six of his seven innings of work with Dallas Baptist breaking through with its only run on his watch in the fourth. In three of his seven innings, Bell did not allow a hit and tossed a pair of perfect frames.
During the midweek, Bell appeared in relief and tossed a shutout inning in the 12-4 win over McNeese State. He allowed one hit while striking out two batters in the sixth inning.
On the week, he posted a 1.12 ERA with a 1-0 W-L record in eight innings of work. He allowed seven hits (just one for extra bases) and one run while striking out five batters.
On the track and in the field, Brown shined in three different events including a first-place showing in the 400m hurdles. Her time of 1:02.38 on Saturday at the Jim Mize Invitational ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
After dashing her way to a gold medal, Brown leaped to new heights in the triple jump and long jump. Her triple jump score of 12.09m was a personal-record and is third-best in the conference this year, and top-25 in the nation. Then, the Macon, Ga., native landed at a mark of 5.65m in the long jump which ranks first in the SBC and 54th in the country.
Brown picked up her fourth career Warhawk of the Week accolade and second this season. She'll be back in action on Saturday when ULM competes at the UL-Lafayette Classic beginning at 10:00 a.m.
