MONROE, La. – The sand was friendly to both Jemal Parharm Jr. and the beach volleyball pair of Delaney Driver and Kaitlyn Shearer as they were honored as Warhawk Male and Female of the Week winners, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Parharm, a junior from the track & field program, finished second in the long jump after he landed in the pebbles with a personal-record mark of 7.63m at the 2016 Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The 7.63m ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference this season and it was the farthest jump by anyone in the league over the weekend.
The Avondale, La. product broke his previous best of 7.57m. Parharm moved up to No. 18 in the nation in the event and No. 12 on the NCAA East Regional qualifying list.
Parharm and the track & field team will be back in action on Friday when they compete in the two-day SFA Carl Kight Invitational in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Juniors Driver and Shearer debuted 4-0 as a pair this past weekend at the Blazer Beach Duals as the ULM beach volleyball squad won three of its four contests. The two commenced the weekend with a straight-set win over New Orleans, limiting the Privateers twos to 26 total points.
The duo cruised the rest of the weekend, notching straight-set wins over UAB, Lincoln Memorial and Jacksonville State at the three-slot. Driver and Shearer were the only pair to score a point versus the Blazers.
ULM beach volleyball has won eight of its last 10 matches and will look to keep it going when it travels to Siesta Key, Fla., for the Fiesta on Siesta. The Warhawks will take on Jacksonville, UNC-Wilmington, Florida State and Stetson.
