Monroe, La. – ULM tennis, coming off a successful fall 2016 season, has announced its 2017 spring slate featuring six home matches. Head coach Terrence De Jongh and the Warhawks are scheduled to play a variety of opponents on the 17-match docket, which also includes a three-day tournament in Fort Worth to open the 2017 spring slate.
All six of the Warhawks home matches are set for the on-campus Heard Stadium, where ULM didn't lose a match last season, finishing with a 4-0-1 mark.
The spring officially begins with a three-day tournament on Friday, January 13 with the Warhawks traveling to Fort Worth to take part in the TCU Spring Invite. Teams included in the tournament include No. 6 Ohio State, No. 23 Mississippi State, No. 32 Baylor, UTEP, Texas State, Mercer and host No. 31 TCU.
The Warhawks then play host to Alcorn State in the home opener on January 19. They look to continue their success from a year ago where they won 7-0 over the Braves - with victories in all six of singles matches.
ULM will close out the month of January with a pair of matches, one at Heard Stadium and one on the road. They will play at SEC-foe Auburn on Sunday, January 22 before coming back home to play Sam Houston State on January 28 to close out the month.
February opens at Stephen F. Austin on February 3 before ULM returns to the courts in Monroe for a Valentine's Day matchup with Jackson State. Last year the Warhawks swept Stephen F. Austin at home prior to beating Jackson State 6-1 in back-to-back matches. The Warhawks close out the month of February with back-to-back matches in Atlanta against Mercer and Georgia State, with the matchup against the Panthers serving as the Warhawks first SBC match of the season. Georgia State is the current SBC champion after defeating South Alabama last season.
The Warhawks open the month of March with a matchup against nearby foe Louisiana Tech. The Warhawks and Lady Techsters will meet in Monroe on Thursday, March 9. Following the match with Louisiana Tech, the Warhawks will go on the road for the remainder of the month with five straight away matches. They will travel to New Orleans for a two-match weekend against Rhode Island and Tulane before traveling for a pair of matches against SBC foes Texas State and UT-Arlington. The Warhawks close out the month against Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.
ULM opens April with its final home match of the season against Georgia Southern on Saturday, April 1. Following the match with Georgia Southern the Warhawks close the year with three straight on the road beginning with a two-match weekend against Arkansas State and Louisiana before facing SMU to close out the regular season slate in Dallas.
The Sun Belt Conference Championships will be April 20-23 in New Orleans.
