Clay, Parharm Win Titles at Ted Nelson Invitational

Track & Field
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – ULM senior Alton Clay set personal and meet records in winning the weight throw with a mark of 68-0 (20.74) while senior Jemal Parharm took first in the long jump with a personal-best 24-9 (7.54) at the Texas A&M/Ted Nelson Invitational on Friday, Jan. 13. Eight personal bests were recorded in the opening meet of the indoor season at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium while a total of seven Warhawks finished among the Top 10 in their respective events.

Clay's distance of 68-0 ranks as the second-best performance in the weight throw in school history.

"We had only three practices before this season-opening meet, so it went about how we expected," ULM head coach J.D. Malone said. "The kids competed well, but we still have a lot of work to do. We're very excited for Alton and Jemal."

Four other Warhawks placed in the Top 10 in field events, including sophomore Rodney Harrison who claimed eighth in the high jump at 6-4 1/4 (1.94) and senior Kyle Weiss who finished 10th in the shot put at 51-0 3/4 (15.56). On the women's side, freshmen Micaiah Dendy and Brianna Sam produced ninth-place finishes in the long jump (17-9 3/4; 5.43) and weight throw (49-5; 15.06), respectively.

Junior Elias Keter finished 10th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:06.46.

As a team, the ULM men scored 21.5 points to finish 12th in the 14-team field.

ULM has a week off from competition before returning to action Jan. 26-27 at the Texas Tech Invitational.
