Quail Valley Intercollegiate / Results After Two Rounds

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The play of Joao Girao and Thibault Santigny, who catapulted 21 and 20 spots on the individual leaderboard, respectively, helped the ULM men's golf team move up six spots on the team leaderboard in Tuesday's second round of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, hosted by McNeese State.

The Warhawks, who made the biggest jump of any team in the second round at the tournament, did so behind a score of 279. ULM also managed to improve its score by nine strokes, improving to even par after an opening round 9-over-par, and will enter the third round with a 576 (297-279).

South Florida (18-under-par 558) climbed into the top spot after carding a 13-under-par in the second round, finishing with a score of 275. North Florida (17-under 559) is second in the race for the tournament crown at the Quail Valley Golf Club after a second- round 279. Arkansas State (13-under 563) rounds out the top three after a 284 on Monday.

Guillaume Fanonnel remains the top player on the ULM card, climbing eight places to 14 where he is tied with five others at 2-under-par 142. Fanonnel, one of four Warhawks with a 70 or better on Monday, emerged with 12 pars and four birdies. The junior got his day off to a solid start with a birdie at 10 before adding a second on the 14th hole. Fanonnel added his final birdies on the fourth and seventh greens, resulting in his round of 2-under 70.

Girao took advantage of 11 pars and five birdies, including three on the back nine, as he finished with the best second-round score (69) of any Warhawk. The Portugal native, who was 3-under-par on the day, is locked in a nine-way tie for 19th with a 1-under-par 143 through 36 holes.

Otto Van Buynder capitalized on 10 birdies and five pars in the second round to move into a five-way tie for 39th at 2-over 146. Van Buynder finished the second round with a par 72.

Santigny, who carded a 2-under-par 70 in the second round, also gave the Warhawks a boost up the team leaderboard with his 11 pars and five birdies. He posted his first birdie on the day at the 11th hole and quickly followed with a birdie on No. 14. Santigny, who is in an eight-way deadlock for 44th at 3-over-par 147, added birdies at the first, second and seventh holes as he made the turn at the back nine.

Jeffrey Berry improved his score by eight strokes in the second round, firing a 2-under-par 70, and advanced 17 spots in the individual standings, moving into a six-way tie for 52nd at 4-over 148. Berry recorded six birdies and eight pars in the second.

McNeese State's Blake Elliott, who fired a second-round 5-under-par 67, moved into first-place tie with South Florida's Ryoto Furuya. Elliott and Furuya both sit at 9-under-par 135, while the tandem of Phillip Knowles (North Florida) and Albin Bergstrom (South Florida) are one stroke off the pace in third place with an 8-under-par 136.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
