MOBILE, Ala. – The ULM cross country team completed the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, and were led by the performances of
Elias Keter and
Sharon Jerono in the process. Keter led the way for the Warhawks' men's unit with a 12th -place finish, while Jerono was the top woman on the team with a 39th -place outing.
Keter completed the course in a time of 25:37.31, averaging 5:09.03 per mile in the process. He was 1:32.40 off the pace established by individual winner Nadeel Wildschutt (Coastal Carolina). While the Chanticleers placed three runners inside the Top-10, Texas-Arlington took home the team title with a total time of 2:07.26. ULM finished ninth with a combined time of 2:20.32 (244 points).
Brandon McDonald posted the second-best time (27:13.21) for the Warhawks, placing 48th in the process. He was followed on the course by the trio of
Kevin Dietrich (28:23.17),
Eric Hawkins (28:27.58) and
Jansen Nowell (30:49.96), who placed 59th, 60th and 65th, respectively.
Jerono paced the ULM women's unit at 19:12.35, averaging 6:10.50 per mile along the way. She was followed by
Edith Jebet, who placed 53rd in a time of 19:46.06. The remaining four Warhawk harriers in the race included
Kennedy Smith (22:41.83; 75th),
N'Finity Lindley (23:11.91; 76th), Rebekka Schubert (25:34.38; 79th) and
Payton Simpson (29:02.07; 80th).
The top individual finisher in the women's race was Texas State's Leslie Romero, who crossed the line in 17:22.91, averaging 5:35.30. She was one of three Bobcats in the Top-10, helping the team to a secondplace finish behind team champion Appalachian State. The Mountaineers combined for a time of 1:29.19, earning 45 points along the way.
The Warhawks now focus their attention on the NCAA South Central Regional, set for Nov. 9 in College Station, Texas.
