MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team is mid-way through its annual fall tournament, the 2018 Warhawk Classic. The Warhawks are playing host to in-state foes Louisiana Tech and the Ragin' Cajuns, as well as Alcorn State and the University of Central Arkansas.
The Warhawks kicked off day one (Nov. 2) of the classic with two singles wins in flight two. Both freshman Angeles Cueto and sophomore
Teodora Radu defeated their opponents. Cueto took down Lady Techster Andrea Perez (6-0, 6-0), while Radu beat out Alcorn State's Bianca Birkenstock in a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
Cueto and Radu then fell in round two of the flight to Central Arkansas' Mei Ishimura (6-3, 2-1) and Mari Van Heerden (7-5, 6-2) respectively. The two Warhawks will meet on Saturday (Nov. 3) in the consolation round.
Cueto also saw success in doubles play. Paired with freshman
Emilia Alfaro, the duo won their match against Central Arkansas' Ishimura and Rada Manataweet in 6-4 fashion. The Warhawk pair will face Ragin' Cjauns Floriane Picaut and Marina Rodriguez on Saturday.
In flight three, Jimena Garbino is set to face Yada Vasupongchai of UCA, Saturday morning in the final round of singles play. Garbino made her way to the finals after a first round bye, then a crucial victory over Manataweewat of UCA (6-1, 7-5).
