Terrence De Jongh and his Warhawks are off to a good start this spring. The ULM women's tennis team is 5-4 overall after a 4-1 victory over McNeese State University on Monday (Feb.26).
ULM and McNeese were originally set to play on Sunday, but due to inclement weather were forced to push the face-off to Monday morning.
The Warhawks dropped the doubles point to the Cowgirls, but claimed the first four singles match-ups to clinch the win.
In the number one spot and finishing second was
Stefana Andrei, a senior Warhawk out of Romania, who took down Cowgirl Giovanna Fioretti in straight sets (6-3,6-2). In fact, all of ULM's win came in straight sets today.
Teodoea Radu was the first to finish, defeating one of McNeese's top performers, Hannah Brett (6-1, 6-1) in the number three spot.
Freshman
Karolina Silwanowicz took dow Marjia Mastilovic from MSU (7-5, 6-2), the two faced off in the number four spot, finishing three overall. Silwanowicz its now 3-1 in her career in the maroon and gold.
Karolina Snita, a sophomore reigning from Poland, wrapped up play on Monday morning with a 6-3,6-2 win over Sarah Jurakova of McNeese, clinching the fourth win for the Hawks and earning the match win in the books.
ULM is now 5-4 overall this season as they head to Hammond, Louisiana later this week to face Southeastern.
