PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The 2018 ULM tennis comes to a close, but the Warhawks did not go down without a fight, falling 4-3 to the number two seed, Georgia State, on Saturday (April 21) at the Sun Belt Championship.
The Warhawks dropped the doubles-point for the second day in a row, but that didn't stop them yesterday (April 20) in their 4-2 upset win over Coastal Carolina and it didn't slow them down today.
ULM automatically claimed a default win on courts five and six, giving
Florencia Salerno and
Bianca Koen walkover wins.
Georgia States' Damira Muminovic managed a 6-1, 6-4 win in the number three spot over freshman
Karolina Silwanowicz, tying the score at two points each.
Now tied, senior Warhawk, and first-team All-Conference singles competitor,
Stefana Andrei would take the singles point from the 2018 Sun Belt Player of the Year, Kristin Rehse in 6-4, 6-1 fashion.
ULM would only need one more point to claim the match, but Lara Vovk from GSU pulled out a close win over Warhawk
Madalina Grigoriu on court four (7-6 [6-4], 6-4).
The final point of the match would be in the hands of sophomore and second team All-Conference singles player,
Karolina Snita, as she faced Georgia State's Daniela Ramirez on court two.
Snita fell in set one, 6-1, but rallied back for a set two win with the same score. The two went back and forth in set three, but Snita was able to gain a 4-1 advantage over Ramirez before the Panther turned the tables and pulled ahead 6-4 winning set three, the game, and the match for Georgia State.
ULM finishes its 2018 season with a 12-8 record, and is already looking forward to another successful year in 2019. Stay tuned for updates and all things new to Warhawk tennis.
