LEXINGTON, Ky. –ULM Beach Volleyball duo
Catherine Griffith and
Rebecca Brown were selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as recipient of the 2018 Top Flight Award. The AVCA Top Flight award was created by the AVCA to honor pairs of beach athletes that have had tremendous success throughout the season.
"I'm proud of Cat and Becca for earning this recognition for the year they put together," said head beach volleyball coach
Russ Friedland. "They deserve it. They were a fun pair to watch and when they were both on, they were unstoppable. This is a great way to cap off a tremendous playing career for Becca and will definitely fuel Cat going into next season!"
In order to qualify for the position, a given pair must play at least 15 matches at a specific flight and win at least 75% of those matches.
Griffith and Brown were a part of a 2018 squad that finished the season 9-12, highlighted with an undefeated showing at the UNO Beach Volleyball Invitational and big wins against Jacksonville State, Mercer, and Austin Peay. The duo finished the season with a 16-5 mark overall, including individual wins over ranked Tulane, Georgia State, and power house UCA.
While Brown has since graduated, Griffith will return for the 2019 season to pick up right where they left off, at the top.
