MONROE, La. – Nathan Weant, former head coach of the 2018 NJCAA National Champions Indian Hills Community College, has been named assistant men's golf coach at ULM, according to an announcement made by Director of Golf Tim Baldwin.
"I'm pleased to announce that Nathan Weant will be joining our program as a full-time assistant golf coach," said Baldwin. "Nathan has an aptitude for coaching and will be an asset to both our men's and women's programs. His calm demeanor and ability to communicate with our student-athletes will prove invaluable. Nathan's attention to detail and organizational skills will add to our operations and recruiting departments as well."
In his lone season at IHCC, Weant's Warriors won the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Championship, and he was named the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year for NJCAA schools. Indian Hills won three of four meets last fall and followed that up with first-place finishes in six of seven competitions in the spring season, culminating with its nine-stroke margin over runner-up Iowa Western for the national title.
A two-year letterwinner on the Texas Tech golf team, Weant then transferred to Stephen F. Austin where he also lettered in golf for two years and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
"I want to thank Coach Baldwin and Nick Floyd for providing me the opportunity to join the ULM family," Weant said. "It is extremely exciting to join a program that has so much local support. The community here has greeted me with open arms and further instilled in me that ULM will be a great place to continue my career."
Weant is familiar with ULM, as he had a short stint as assistant coach during the summer of 2017, shortly after finishing his studies as a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University.
"The opportunity for me to learn from the 30 years of experience that Coach Baldwin has will be instrumental for me and my coaching career moving forward," Weant said. "I look forward to playing my role here as an assistant coach and providing ULM with multiple conference championships."
As a player, Weant was a member of three different Top-25 ranked teams in NCAA Division I golf, had five top-10 finishes and three more Top-25 finishes in college, and recorded the eighth-lowest tournament scoring average in program history at Stephen F. Austin. The new assistant coach also was named a Cleveland/Srixon All-American Scholar in 2016 and was a Class 4-A three-time first-team all-state selection while in high school in Texas.
