2018-19 ULM Men's Golf Schedule
MONROE, La. – ULM's 2018-19 men's golf schedule features 11 regular-season tournaments, including five this fall and six more next spring. ULM Director of Golf
Tim Baldwin welcomes back six lettermen from last season, including three All-Sun Belt performers, to go along with three talented freshmen.
ULM placed among the Top 10 in all 11 tournaments, with three top-five finishes including a win the Mystic Creek Match Play Championship, during the 2017-18 campaign.
"We are looking forward to a very challenging schedule in 2018-19 against some quality competition," Baldwin said. "Our talent level is better, so there will be a lot of competition for the top 5 travel spots. Ultimately, it will boil down to our consistency day in day out and our ability to capitalize on opportunities."
The Warhawks kickoff its fall schedule Sept. 10-11 at the Valero Texas Open Intercollegiate in San Antonio. The fall slate also includes trips to the Louisville Intercollegiate (Sept. 14-16), LSU/David Toms Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-7), Quail Valley Intercollegiate (Oct. 14-16; hosted by McNeese State in Vero Beach, Florida) and Little Rock/First Tee Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-23).
ULM opens its spring schedule at the Auburn Tiger Invitational Feb. 24-26 before competing in the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, March 11-12 (hosted by Houston). Last March, the Warhawks tied for third at the Border Olympics with a 9-under par 855 (291-280-284).
The spring slate also features trips to the Lake Charles Invitational March 18-19 (hosted by McNeese State), Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate April 1-2 (Arkansas State) and Old Waverly Intercollegiate April 15-16 in West Point, Mississippi (Mississippi State).
The 2019 Sun Belt Conference Championships are set for April 21-24 at the Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla. Last April,
Joao Girao (tied for sixth),
Max Catherine (tied for ninth) and
Guillaume Fanonnel (tied for 17th) all finished in the Top 20 to help ULM claim fifth in the Sun Belt Championships.
Catherine (second team), Fanonnel (third team) and Girao (third team) earned All-Sun Belt honors in 2018. In addition, Catherine was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.
The NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 12-15 followed by the NCAA Championships May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
"Looking to make immediate impacts are a trio of new freshman:
Keegan McLachlan and Otto van Buynder, from South Africa, and
Michael Gilbert from England," Baldwin said. "Each have extensive playing backgrounds and will compliment All-Sun Belt players
Max Catherine,
Joao Girao and
Guillaume Fanonnel. In addition,
Jeff Berry,
Andoni Etchenique and
Thibault Santigny will also add to a quality mix.
"If we play like we are capable, we hope to make a run at the Sun Belt Conference Championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals."
