MONROE,La. – The ULM women's tennis team is back in action this week, as junior
Karolina Snita and freshman Maria
Emilia Alfaro travel to Wisconsin for the 43
rd annual Milwaukee Classic, the largest and longest-running event of its kind. Both Warhawks will compete in singles, starting Thursday morning.
2018 marks the second consecutive year that ULM student-athletes received an invitation to the classic. Last year, former Warhawk
Stefana Andrei was joined by Snita in Milwaukee. This is only the second time in ULM's history that the team was selected to compete.
Andrei and Snita had advanced to the quarterfinals after an exhilarating Round of 32 victory against a duo from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
Andrei, who has had nothing but success on the court since her arrival at ULM in 2016, posted two, straight set victories in both the Round of 32 and Round of 16 to move on to the quarterfinals. There, she faced no.57 Sinead Lohan from the University of Miami; Andrei achieve a set one win, but fell to Lohan in sets two and three. Lohan would go on to win the MTC's singles competition title.
Since 1975, players representing 119 colleges and universities from all parts of the United States have participated in Milwaukee Tennis Classic competition.
In Arkansas, the rest of the Warhawk squad will be taking part in the University of Central Arkansas' Fall Classic on Friday (Sept. 21).
In addition to Snita, ULM brings back junior
Madalina Grigoriu and sophomores
Teodora Radu and
Florencia Salerno.
Head tennis coach
Terrence De Jongh welcomes four newcomers to the team including Alfaro:
