SHREVEPORT, La. – ULM's
Guillaume Fanonnel earned the second Top-5 finish of the season and fourth of his career at the David Toms Intercollegiate on Sunday, finishing the two-day, three-round event at 11-under-par, as he closed in a tie for fifth. The Warhawk senior led the way for a ULM unit that finished fifth in the team standings at 10-under-par.
Fanonnel, who has now notched six Top-10 outings in his collegiate career, finished with a score of 205 (68-68-69) in three rounds. His third-round 69 came by virtue of an eagle, two birdies and 14 pars, resulting in his fifth round in the 60s during the fall slate. Fanonnel is now averaging a score of 69.88 through nine rounds. LSU's Trey Winstead was the co-individual champion with teammate Hayden White as the pair finished with a 17-under-par score of 199.
ULM also laid claim to its second Top-5 team finish of the season, ending the event with a score of 854 (285-280-289). The Warhawks were eight shots off of Jacksonville State (846, -18), who finished fourth, while host LSU completed the sweep by earning the team crown at 63-under-par with a score of 801.
Andoni Etchenique came through with his best finish of the fall, finishing in a four-way tie for 12th, as he was 5-under-par with a score of 211 (70-71-70). Etchenique came through with five birdies on the day, including four on the back nine, to claim his sixth Top-15 finish in his career.
The third-best score of the tournament by the Warhawks came from
Thibault Santigny, who finished in a six-way tie for 30th. Santigny was 1-over-par with a score of 217 (73-71-73) in his first appearance for ULM this season. He closed the final round with four birdies and 10 pars, carding two birdies on the back nine.
ULM's
Keegan McLachlan, who finished at 6-over-par with a score of 222 (74-70-78), was tied alongside Grayson Wallace (Wichita State) for 49th. McLachlan enjoyed 11 pars and one birdie in his third tournament of the slate.
Sophomore
Otto Van Buynder completed the Warhawk team scorecard with a 60
th-place finish that came after scoring a 13-over-par 229 (75-77-77). Van Buynder's final round card included one birdie and 11 pars as he finished one place in front of teammate and individual participant
Michael Gilbert. Gilbert closed out the tournament with a 13-over-par score of 229 (75-77-77) after capping off the final round with two birdies and 10 pars.
The ULM men's golf team wraps up fall play in the last weekend of October (27-28) at the Grandover Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro, at the Grandover Resort & Hotel.
