ULM Sweeps Huntingdon College, 5-0

Beach Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM beach volleyball team rolled to a second 5-0 victory on Friday, Feb. 22, when it downed Huntingdon College in the second match of the Blazer Beach Bash in Birmingham, Ala. The win, which followed a 5-0 triumph against Jacksonville State earlier in the morning, moves the Warhawks to 2-0 on the season for the first time in the program's seven-year history.

ULM capitalized on a 21-6, 21-11 victory by the tandem of Grace Convey and Gabby Love, who downed Cheyenne Scarbrough and Halee Hatcher on court one. Meanwhile on court two, the Warhawk pair of Maile Sellers and Catherine Griffith earned a 21-10, 21-12 win against Addison Genard and Nichole LeFevre.

The Warhawks clinched the team victory when the court three duo of Tamara Merseli and Kayla Gallant completed a 21-5, 21-5 win over Amy Tyma and Lexie DeVuyst.

"We started a little slow as a whole, but around the technical timeout of the first set, we really started to turn it around," ULM head coach Sara Rishell said. "Kayla (Gallant) and Tamara (Merseli) dominated all day, and brought a lot of energy to their matches. They excel at the three seed, and it will be really fun to continue to watch them compete."

ULM would pick up a win by the team of Elizabeth Moreland and Allie Kemp, who emerged with a 21-14, 21-11 victory against the Hawks' Kaitlyn Carter and Shelby McAllister. The Warhawk duo of Holland Ponthieux and Bailey Smith posted a 21-17, 21-12 win over Huntingdon's April Reese and Alexis Creasman as ULM completed the sweep.

The Warhawks now turn their attention to the matches on Saturday, Feb. 23, which include a showdown against host UAB at 9:30 a.m. A ULM victory would even the all-time series between the two schools with five wins each. The two-day tournament concludes with a match against North Alabama at 12:30 p.m.

"UAB is a solid team, and tomorrow morning, we will need to bring energy and focus from start to finish to come out on top," Rishell said. "I'm very proud of this team, and the will they had to win. They truly accepted the challenge in front of them and rose to the occasion today."
