UAB Edges ULM in Beach Volleyball, 3-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Wins on courts one, three and five allowed host UAB to earn a 3-2 victory over ULM in Saturday (Feb. 23) morning beach volleyball action at the Blazer Beach Bash.
 
The Blazers improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory, grabbing a court one win by the duo of Kenley Adams and Salli Napolitano, who took down Grace Convey and Gabby Love by scores of 21-14, 21-19.
 
ULM rebounded to claim a 27-25, 21-15 win on court two as Catherine Griffith and Maile Sellers battled past the tandem of Jaelyn Keene and Jayme Bratsburg.
 
The Blazers grabbed their second point of the match on the third court as Tressa Buckland and Annie Pringle posted a 21-16, 21-18 win over Tamara Merseli and Kayla Gallant.
 
The back-and-forth battle continued on court four, which ended in a triumph by the Warhawk pair of Elizabeth Moreland and Allie Kemp, who downed Emily Martinez and Britteny Munro by scores of 21-14, 16-21, 15-13.
 
UAB earned the decisive third point by virtue of a 21-14, 21-8 victory from Emma Andraka and Jenna Gaithright over Holland Pontheiux and Bailey Smith.
 
"Our fours, Elizabeth and Allie, really took care of business against this team," ULM head coach Sara Rishell said. "After a few reception errors, they stayed tough and played together really well to secure the win. Our twos, Cat and Maile, were dominant on the defensive side with lots of hard digs and big blocks at the net. Any ball that Cat didn't block, Maile dug up.
 
"As anticipated, it ended up being a very tough battle, and we just came up short in the end. Our one and three teams were too slow to adjust to UAB's offensive approach in the match."
