ULM Downs Delta State, 6-1; Picks Up Third Win of Season

CLEVELAND, Miss.
– The ULM women's tennis team picked up its third win in as many matches on Tuesday, Feb. 26 when the Warhawks downed Delta State, 6-1.
 
ULM won two of the three doubles matches, taking advantage of a 6-2 victory by the duo of Florencia Salerno and Emilia Alfaro, who downed Katheryne Valencia and Sophia St. Amant. The Warhawks earned the doubles point when the tandem of Shivani Manjanna and Angeles Maria Cueto defeated Beth Owen and Natahalia Stelzer by the score of 6-1.
 
Delta State prevented the clean sweep of doubles as the combination of Fabiola Cardenas and Nathalia Sato edge Teodora Radu and Tiffany Phaysouphan by a margin of 6-4.
 
Salerno's 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Owen, in the clash of sixth-seeded players resulted in the second ULM point of the afternoon. The Warhawks stretched their advantage to 3-0 in the match in the meeting of No. 5 seeds, as Jimena Paula Garbino posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Stelzer.
 
Manjanna followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ione' Deroode in a clash of third-seeded players, clinching the team win for the Warhawks. Cueto stretched the lead to 5-1 with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 victory over Valencia.
 
The Warhawks dominated singles play, picking up a win by No. 2 seed Alfaro, who downed Sato in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.  Delta State's only win in singles came via Cardenas' 6-3, 6-0 victory over Phaysouphan at No. 1.
 
ULM returns home on Friday, March 8 to host I-20 rival Louisiana Tech at 11:30 a.m.
