ULM Women’s Tennis Earns Pair of Wins Sunday

ULM Women's Tennis Earns Pair of Wins Sunday
 
JACKSON, Miss. – The ULM women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, March 10, as the Warhawks downed Southeast Missouri by a 4-2 margin and triumphed over Jackson State, 4-1.
 
ULM 4, Southeast Missouri 2
The doubles tandem of Florencia Salerno and Jimena Garbino provided the Warhawks (4-1) with the first doubles win of the match as they downed Romana Tarajova and Manuela Barriga by a score of 6-2. Teammates Emilia Alfaro and Shivani Manjanna followed with a 6-3 victory over Isabella Krupa and Teona Velkoska.
 
Southeast Missouri (5-5) rebounded to tie the match at 1-1 as Kseniya Zonova emerged with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Teodora Radu at No. 2 singles. The Redhawks grabbed the lead in the match after Sneha Sinha posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Salerno in a clash at No. 6 singles.
 
Garbino claimed her second win of the match for the Warhawks, emerging with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anais Emelie at No. 5 singles. Alfaro followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Krupa at No. 3 singles, moving ULM to within one point of the team victory.
 
The Warhawks secured that final point at No. 4 singles when Manjanna fought past Velkoska by scores of 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
 
ULM 4, Jackson State 1
The Warhawks (5-1) also came through with a 4-1 win over host Jackson State (3-13) in the second match of the afternoon.
 
With a late afternoon start, the match opened the singles play.
 
ULM's Florencia Salerno and Jimena Garbino claimed the first two points by virtue of forfeits at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The third Warhawk win of the match came at No. 4 singles where Shivani Manjanna posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lucia Placidi.
 
Jackson State grabbed its first point of the afternoon as Lucia Solis snagged a 6-3, 6-2 win against Tiffany Phaysouphan at No. 1 singles. The Warhawks rebounded to clinch the match by virtue Teodora Radu's straight-set victory over Maria Martinez, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
