ULM Men’s Golf Sixth After Two Rounds at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – Led by the play of Otto Van Buynder and Guillaume Fanonnel, who are locked in a 10-way tie for 15th, the ULM men's golf team heads into the final round of play at the Border Olympics in sixth place after shooting a 7-under-par 569 (283-286) through two rounds on Monday, March 11.
 
The Warhawks are nine shots behind Campbell for fifth, which finished with a 560 (278-282), and 24 strokes off the pace established by team leader Arkansas State, which closed with a 31-under-par score of 545 (275-270).
 
Van Buynder, who lead the way for the Warhawks in the opening two rounds, shaved three shots off his opening round 72 to finish with a 69 in the second round for a 3-over-par 141. Fanonnel who capped off the day with nine birdies, finished with scores of 71 in the first round and 70 in the second, to close with a 141.
 
The ULM tandem of Van Buynder and Fanonnel sit nine shots off the pace set by Arkansas State's Matthew Cole, who finished the day with a 12-under-par 132 which included rounds of 67 and 65. Cole is one shot in front of the trio of Arkansas State's Zan Luka Stirn, Houston's Alexander Frances and UT-Rio Grande Valley's Alvaro Hernandez.
 
Andoni Etchenique ended the opening day of play tied for 40th with an even score of 144, carding a pair of 72s on the Laredo Country Club Course. Teammate Michael Gilbert is one of seven players tied for 50th after finishing with a 1-over-par 145 (70-75).
 
Thibault Santigny began the day with an opening round 70, but closed with a 77 in the second round, putting himself in a six-way tie for 61st with a 3-over-par 147. He recorded 27 pars over the course of the day; just one of five players to achieve that total.
 
Keegan McLachlan, competing as an individual, finished the first two rounds at 22-over-par 166.
 
The Border Olympics concludes on Tuesday, March 12.
