Women’s Tennis Downs Georgia Southern in Sun Belt Opener, 4-3

MONROE, La.Jimena Paula Garbino helped the ULM women's tennis team earn its fifth win in as many matches on Thursday afternoon as she posted a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Georgia Southern's Elizabeth Goines in the clash of fifth-flight players on Thursday, March 14.
 
The Warhawks (5-1, 1-0 Sun Belt) picked up their first win of the afternoon at No. 2 doubles when Shivani Manjanna and Maria Alfaro posted a 7-6 win over the duo of Lindsay Truscott and Luis Hrda. That tied the doubles matches at 1-1 after Emilia Bujan and Arianne de Winter opened with a 6-4 win over the duo of Teodora Radu and Tiffany Phaysouphan at No. 1.
 
ULM claimed the doubles point, assuming the 1-0 lead in the match, when Florencia Salerno and Garbino came through with a 7-5 victory over Paula Boixader and Charlotte Van Diemen at No. 3.
 
Hrda evened her mark to 1-1 on the day as she tied the match with a 6-4, 6-1 in singles over Salerno at No. 6. Georgia Southern (6-6,0-1) took a 2-1 lead in the match when Boixader won in straight sets at No. 3 over Radu, 6-2, 6-1.
 
ULM tied the match at 2-2 as Manjanna claimed a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 win against Mila Hartig in the meeting of fourth-flight players. The Warhawks then moved within one win of the match when Alfaro notched a 7-6, 6-0 victory against de Winter in the battle of No. 1s.
 
Bujan continued the back-and-forth battle, evening the match at 3-3, by overcoming an opening set loss to eventually down Phaysouphan at No. 2 by scores of 2-6, 7-5, 7-5. That win set the stage for the decisive match between Garbino and Goines in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
 
The Warhawks return to the court on Sunday, March 17 to square off against Georgia State at 12 p.m.
