ULM Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Seven Matches; Defeats Georgia State, 4-3

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's tennis team (7-1, 2-0 Sun Belt) earned its seventh-straight win as it edged Georgia State, 4-3, on Sunday, March 17.  
 
The Warhawks jumped out to a 1-0 as Georgia State forfeited the doubles point.
 
The first two wins for the Warhawks came by virtue of a forfeit in doubles action, giving ULM the early 1-0 advantage in the match. ULM extended its lead to 3-0 before the match's first serve, as Jimena Paula Garbino and Florencia Salerno were awarded walkover wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively.
 
Georgia State won the next three matches to tie the score at 3-3. Damira Muminovic got the Panthers on the scoreboard with a straight-sets victory at No. 3 singles over Shivani Manjanna, 6-0, 6-4. Next in a clash of No. 2 singles, Daniela Ramirez posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over ULM's Tiffany Phaysouphan. Eva Chivu tied the match with a hard-fought 7-6, 6-4 victory over Maria Alfaro at No. 1 singles.
 
ULM clinched the 4-3 win as Angeles Maria Cueto earned a three-set victory over Lara Vovk, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
 
Next, the Warhawks hit the road for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches at UT Arlington on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. and at Texas State on Sunday, March 24 at 10 a.m.
