LAKE CHARLES, La.
– ULM junior Andoni Etchenique enters the final round of action at the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational in fifth place after firing an 8-under-par 136 in the first two rounds that concluded on Monday, March 19. Etchenique, along with freshman Otto Van Buynder, who is tied for seventh, played key roles in helping the Warhawks climb to third in the team standings.
 
Etchenique continued his solid play in the spring season as he finished 2-under par in the first round with a score of 70. He took four shots off that score in the second, closing with a 66, as he moved to 8-under-par for the tournament with a 136. Etchenique has recorded a 72 or better in six of his last seven rounds, dating back to the Tiger Invitational on Feb. 24-26.
 
Van Buynder notched the best single round (66) of his Warhawk career in the first round on Monday. He followed that with a 72 in the second round of play, closing the day at 6-under-par with a 138. Like Etchenique, Van Buynder has come into his own of late, scoring a 72 or better in his last five-straight rounds.
 
Texas Tech's Sandy Scott (64-65), who carded a 15-under-par 129, leads TCU's David Ravetto (64-66) by one stroke.
 
On the team leaderboard, No. 43 TCU leads the 18-team field with a 36-under-par 540 (269-271), followed by No. 10 Texas Tech at 28-under 548 (274-274). ULM trails the second-place Red Raiders by nine shots after recording rounds of 281 and 276 for a 19-under-par 557.
 
"We had a strong team effort," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "The guys played very well today, shooting 19-under.
 
"Everyone is playing well at the moment, and we're going to need to go low again tomorrow to keep pace."
 
Junior Joao Girao enjoyed the third-best score for ULM on the day and will begin the final round tied for 29th. Girao followed an opening-round 73 with a 69 to finish the day at 2-under-par 142.
 
Junior Guillaume Fanonnel, currently tied for 46th in the tournament, completed 36 holes at even-par 144 after carding a pair of 72s.
 
Junior Thibault Santigny, one of four Warhawks to post a sub-70 Monday, fired rounds of 76 and 69 for a 1-over-par 145, good for a tie for 55th.

The final round of the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March. 19.
