LAKE CHARLES, La.
– Three ULM men's golfers finished inside the Top 25 at the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational, including junior Andoni Etchenique who tied for 11th, as the Warhawks closed out the tournament tied for fourth in the team standings on Tuesday, March 19.

Etchenique earned his second Top-15 performance of the season, with the first coming a week ago taking 16th at the Border Olympics, after finishing 7-under-par with a score of 209 (70-66-73). He recorded 36 pars and 13 birdies over 54 holes.

He was followed on the team by junior Joao Girao, who capped off the third round with the best score by any Warhawk (69) en route to a 5-under-par 211 (73-69-69). Girao produced 35 pars and 12 birdies during the two-day tournament.

ULM finished tied for fourth with Lamar on the leaderboard as the Warhawks closed with a 20-under-par 844 (281-276-287), 27 shots off the pace established by team champion TCU, which shot a combined 47-under-par 817 (269-271-277). Four ULM golfers posted scores under par for the tournament.

"I'm really proud of the men's team posting a new 54-hole scoring record for ULM while beating 18th-ranked Sun Belt Conference rival Arkansas State by three shots," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "Andoni Etchenique had another good week finishing 11th, and Joao Girao also placed in the Top 20, tying for 16th."

Freshman Otto Van Buynder, who tallied 11 birdies, placed himself in five-way tie for 24th after posting a 4-under-par 212 (66-72-74). Junior Guillaume Fanonnel, who took one stroke off his first and second round scores, finished tied for 38th at 1-under-par 215 (72-72-71). Fanonnel totaled 34 pars over 54 holes.

Junior Thibault Santigny completed the team scorecard for ULM, placing 55th with a 13-over-par 229 (76-69-84). Santigny registered 12 birdies over 54 holes.

ULM has a 12-day break before returning to action on April 1-2 at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State.

"The team takes a little break now before heading to Jonesboro, Arkansas, for our second-to-last tournament in advance of the Sun Belt Conference Championships in late April," Baldwin said.
