ULM’s Seven-Match Winning Streak Ends Against Coastal Carolina, 4-3

MONROE, La. – Coastal Carolina emerged with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over ULM in Sun Belt Conference women's tennis action on Saturday, March 30 at Heard Stadium.
 
The setback to the Chanticleers snapped a seven-match winning streak for ULM, which had not lost since a 7-0 decision to Arkansas in the season opener on Jan. 25.
 
Coastal Carolina (10-7, 3-2 Sun Belt) grabbed the first win of doubles action when the duo of Jessie Mount and Jennifer Brown downed Maria Alfaro and Tiffany Phaysouphan by a 6-2 margin at the No. 1 position. Alexa Tiefel and Alicja Zduniak earned the doubles point with a 7-5 triumph over ULM's Florencia Salerno and Jimena Paulo Garbino at No. 3.
 
Somer Dalla-Bona stretched CCU's advantage to 2-0 with a win over Teodora Radu at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-1.
 
Salerno put the first point on the board for ULM (8-2, 3-1) by dominating Tiefel, 6-1, 6-1 in the clash of No. 6 seeds. Alfaro tied the match for the Warhawks at 2-2 after claiming a 6-3, 6-2 win over Viktorija Demcenkova in a battle of No. 1 seeds. ULM took a 3-2 lead after Garbino won in straight sets at No. 4 over Zduniak, 6-2, 6-3.
 
CCU rallied to tie the match at 3-3 as Mount defeated Angeles Cueto, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 5 and Brown followed with a three-set victory in the decisive match-up at No. 2 over Shivani Manjanna, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
 
ULM returns to its homecourt on Sunday, March 31 against conference-leader Appalachian State (5-0) at 11 a.m.
