ULM Tennis Hands App State First Sun Belt Loss, 4-3

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's tennis team picked up its fourth Sun Belt Conference victory of the season on Sunday afternoon (March 31) when it downed league-leading Appalachian State, 4-3. The Warhawks rebounded from having its eight-match winning streak snapped by Coastal Carolina, 4-3, on Saturday.
 
The Mountaineers (11-5, 5-1 Sun Belt) grabbed the first win of the doubles competition as Jeannez Daniel and Kate Earnhardt posted a 6-2 win over Florencia Salerno and Jimena Garbino at the No. 3 position.
 
ULM (9-2, 4-1) got its first doubles victory at No. 2 as Shivani Manjanna and Angeles Cueto downed Sandra Anglesjo and Teodora Sevo, 6-3. The Warhawks put their first point on the scoreboard when the No. 1 doubles tandem of Maria Alfaro and Tiffany Phaysouphan emerged with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Maria Jose Zacarias and Heidi Swope.
 
Manjanna opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Zacarias at No. 3, and Cueto cruised past Rebecca Morse at No. 5 as ULM built a 3-0 advantage.
 
App State earned its first point of the match at No. 2 singles as Earnhardt defeated Phaysouphan, 6-4, 6-4. The Mountaineers rallied to tie the match at 3-3 as Swope outlasted Salerno, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 6 and Daniel followed with a three-set win over Garbino, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0 at No. 4.
 
The match was decided at No. 1 singles where Alfaro overcame an opening-set loss to produce a 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over Sevo as ULM improved to 4-1 in Sun Belt play.
 
The Warhawks resume conference play next weekend with back-to-back road matches at South Alabama Saturday, April 6 and Troy Sunday, April 7.
