Men's Golf
MONROE, La. – After a 12-day break since its last tournament, the ULM men's golf team returns to the links on Monday, March 11 to compete in the Laredo Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston. The two-day tournament is taking place at the Loredo Country Club, which opened in 1984, and covers 7,241 yards in championship tees.

ULM, which last participated at Tiger Invitational on Feb. 24-26, will send six golfers to the Lone Star State. As a team, the Warhawks have finished in the Top 10 in five of six tournaments in 2018-19, including an eighth-place performance in the 16-team field at the Tiger Invitational with a 16-over-par 880 (304-289-287).

ULM's lineup features Guillaume Fanonnel (71.55 scoring avg.), Thibault Santigny (73.38), Andoni Etchenique (74.09), Michael Gilbert (74.30) and Otto Van Buynder (74.05) while Keegan McLachlan (76.10) will compete as an individual. The Warhawks finished tied for third in the Laredo Border Olympics in 2018, with Joao Girao (tied for 21st) posting the best finish of any ULM golfer.

"This is an important tournament for our team," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "The tournament features a good field, and it provides an opportunity for us to continue to build momentum and climb the rankings."

The hottest Warhawk golfer heading into Monday's event is Fanonnel, who earned the first Top-3 finish of his career at the Tiger Invitational. The Lyon, France, native placed himself in a four-way tie for third in the tournament, hosted by Auburn, after posting a 3-under-par score of 213 (75-69-69). Fanonnel has recorded three rounds of 69 over his last six rounds of tournament play, dating back to last fall's Little Rock Invitational (Oct. 22-23, 2018). He finished tied for 29th in the Laredo Border Olympics last spring, firing a 1-under-par 215 (72-71-72).

Santigny will take part in his third tournament of the season after participating in the Tiger Invitational and Quail Valley Intercollegiate (Oct. 14, 2018). He carded a 5-over-par 221 (77-73-71) to finish tied for 29th at the Tiger Invitational. Santigny did not participate in last spring's Laredo Border Olympics.

Etchenique also has participated in three tournaments in 2018-19, twice finishing in among the Top-40 participants (31st in David Toms Intercollegiate; and 35th in Tiger Invitational). A year ago, he shot an 11-over-par 227 (76-76-75) in the Border Olympics.

Gilbert has a pair of Top-40 finishes to his credit, including a season-best 25th-place performance at the Lone Star Invitational where he finished two rounds with a 5-over-par 149. He did not participate in last year's Border Olympics.

Van Buynder has taken part in six of the seven tournaments for the Warhawks during his freshman campaign. He has a pair of Top-15 outings, including a season-best 10th place in the David Toms Intercollegiate last fall (Oct. 6-7, 2018). The other came at the Little Rock Invitational where he tied for 13th. It will mark his first appearance in the Border Olympics.

McLachlan has participated in three events in 2018-19, last taking the course in the fall when he finished 70th at the David Toms Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-7, 2018) after a three-round total of 25-over 241 (81-80-80). His best finish of the schedule was 20th in the Lone Star Invitational after posting a two-round total of 148 (73-75).
