DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
ULM senior Scarlett Eaton is locked in a three-way tie for fifth place after firing a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round of the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championships on Monday, April 15. Eaton became one of seven golfers to post an under-par score on the LPGA International Hills Course.

A native of Mineral Wells, Texas, Eaton tallied 13 pars and three birdies in the first round and sits one shot off the pace established by Texas State teammates Anne-Charlotte Mora and Sasikarn Somboonsup, Troy's Lindsey Harrison and Georgia Southern's Julianna Collett, who share the lead at 2-under-par 70.

"Scarlett (Eaton) played great," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "She had a fast start and made the turn at nine at 3-under-par. Scarlett got a bad break on hole No. 2, her 11th for the day, when her approach shot hit the flag stick and bounced off the green for her first bogey. She played the par 3s 1-under-par for the day."

As a team, ULM stands in eighth place with a 22-over-par score of 310, seven shots behind Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina, who are tied for sixth place at 15-over-par 303. Texas State sits atop the team leaderboard with a 2-over-par 290, one shot better than both Troy and Georgia Southern, who are at 3-over-par 291.

ULM junior Shani White and Eva Bjornsdottir are among six players tied for 37th after carding a 7-over-par 79. White tallied 11 pars on the day, including six on the front nine, while Bjornsdottir completed the opening round with nine pars and two birdies, both of which came on the front nine.

Senior Olivia Landberg and sophomore Jahaanvie Walia finished off the first round in a four-way tie for 45th with a 9-over-par 81. Landberg's day included 11 pars, six on the back nine, and Walia closed out the round with eight pars and a birdie, which came at the eighth green.

"The rest of our lineup struggled today," Baldwin said, "so we need a strong team effort tomorrow to close the gap on a Top-t finish for the week."

The second round of the Sun Belt Women's Golf Championships gets underway Tuesday, April 16 at 8 a.m. ET.
