2019 Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship Bracket
MONROE, La. – No. 5-seed ULM (10-5, 5-4) faces No. 4-seed UT Arlington (15-8, 6-3) in the 2019 Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinals on Thursday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. ET at the Peachtree City (Georgia) Tennis Center.
The regular-season match-up between the Warhawks and Mavericks, scheduled for March 23 in Arlington, Texas, was postponed by weather.
ULM's singles lineup features five freshmen, including All-Sun Belt First-Team selection Maria Alfaro at the No. 1 position.
The 5-foot-3 Alfaro, who has compiled a 7-4 singles record including a 5-3 mark in Sun Belt matches from the No. 1 position, is one of two freshmen selected to the all-conference first team. Her top regular-season victories came against Appalachian State's Teodora Sevo (2-6, 7-6 [7-3], 6-4), ULL's Floriane Picaut (6-1, 6-2) and Coastal Carolina's Viktorija Demcenkova (6-3, 6-2). Alfaro's three-set win over Texas State's Ana Perez (6-7 [2-7], 6-3, 7-5) clinched the decisive point in ULM's 4-3 victory over the Bobcats.
Freshman
Shivani Manjanna, who leads the team in wins (10-4), took over the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup midway through the conference schedule. The 5-10 Manjanna posted a combined record of 8-2 when playing the No. 3-4 positions. She put together a six-match winning streak earlier this spring. Her top regular-season victories came against App State's Jose Maria Zacarias (6-2, 6-1), ULL's Dana Radovanovic (6-0, 5-7, 6-3) and Georgia Southern's Mila Hartig (6-1, 1-6, 6-1).
Freshman
Tiffany Phaysouphan (0-9) and sophomore
Teodora Radu (1-6) will compete at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions, respectively.
Freshman Jimena Garbino has posted a 6-4 singles record, including a perfect 4-0 at the No. 5 position.
Freshman Maria Cueto (7-4) completes the ULM singles lineup at the No. 6 position. After suffering a straight-sets loss in the spring season opener at Arkansas, the 5-2 Cueto reeled off five-straight victories.
Veteran head coach
Terrence De Jongh has shuffled his doubles lineup heading into the Sun Belt Championships.
Manjanna and Cueto, who combined for a 6-3 record at the No. 2 position, have been elevated to the No. 1 position for the Sun Belt Championships. The duo opened the spring with five-straight doubles victories.
Alfaro has been paired with sophomore
Florencia Salerno at No. 2 doubles. Alfaro and Salerno (2-1) opened the spring season at No. 3 doubles.
For the first time this season, Phaysouphan and Garbino will be paired together at the No. 3 position.
ULM won its first Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship in 2017.
The winner of Thursday's ULM-UTA match will advance to play the winner of the No. 1-seed Appalachian State/No. 8-seed Georgia Southern in the semifinals on Friday, April 19 at 10 a.m. ET.
