Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate / Results After Two Rounds

JONESBORO, Ark.
– The ULM men's golf team is in second place, seven shots off the pace established by 28th-ranked Arkansas State, after two rounds of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at the RidgePointe Country Club. The Warhawks ascended to the top three teams in the tournament by placing three individuals in the Top-20, including Andoni Etchenique, who is locked in a five-way tie for second.

ULM, which closed with a 9-over-par 585 (288-297) after 36 holes Monday (April 1), holds a two-stroke lead over Eastern Kentucky, which sits at 11-over-par 587 (296-291).

Etchenique, who sits just two shots behind individual leader Kris Kerr (Southeastern Louisiana) heading into the final round on Tuesday, is at 2-under-par 142. In his first 18 holes of the day, he tallied 10 pars and a team-best seven birdies en route to the lowest first round (67) by any Warhawk. Etchenique followed that with 10 pars and three birdies, closing out the second round with a 75. The junior has had eight rounds of 72 better this spring, including a 66 and 67 in two of his last four rounds.

Junior Guillaume Fanonnel also ranks among the Top-10 on the individual leaderboard, locked in a three-way tie for seventh with an even-par score of 144 (73-71). Fanonnel tallied seven pars and one birdie on the front nine of the first round and picked up two birdies and four pars on the back nine to card a 73. He took two strokes off that score with a 71 in the second round after recording 11 pars and four birdies for his ninth-consecutive round of 73 or better.

The third Warhawk among the Top-20 individuals is freshman Otto Van Buynder, who is one of three players tied for 16th with a 3-over-par 147 (70-77). His day began with a 14-par, three-birdie first round that left him with the second-lowest score for the Warhawks. In the second round, Van Buynder again carded 14 pars but managed just one birdie to close with a 77.

Junior Joao Girao posted the fourth-best score among ULM golfers, finishing 36 holes with a 9-over-par 153 (78-75). After posting seven birdies on the front nine in the first round, he managed just four pars and one birdie on the back nine to finish with a 78. Girao found his rhythm in the second round, opening with four birdies and two pars in his first nine holes. He followed that with six pars and one birdie on the back nine to close with ULM's second-best second-round score.

Michael Gilbert closes out the ULM scorecard with a 10-over-par 154 (78-76), tied for 46th in the field of 67. The freshman's first-round total included nine pars and four birdies, while his second round consisted of 12 pars and one birdie.

The Warhawks return to the course on Tuesday morning, looking to record their third Top-5 finish of the spring.
