MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.
– The ULM men's golf team rallied in the third round to force a sudden-death playoff with UT Arlington, where the Warhawks prevailed to grab a spot in Wednesday's match play that will decide the Sun Belt Conference team champion. Individually, the Warhawks were led by the trio of Guillaume Fanonnel, Andoni Etchenique and Otto Van Buynder, who finished inside the Top 25 of the leaderboard.

The Warhawks fired a 14-under par 270 on Tuesday, April 23 to finish regulation with a 15-under 837 (282-285-270), tying UT Arlington (282-281-274 – 837) on the leaderboard at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Fla. ULM's 837 marked the lowest 54-hole score in program history (previous record: 844 in 2019 Lake Charles Toyota Invitational and 2016 Sam Hall Intercollegiate). In addition, ULM's third-round 274 tied the second-lowest round (274 in first round of 2014 Jim West Intercollegiate) in school history.

Fanonnel earned his sixth Top-15 performance of the season, finishing in 13th place with a 5-under-par 208 (74-70-68). The 68 marked his lowest third-round score of the season. Fanonnel recorded 11 pars and five birdies along the way, including a trio of birdies on the front nine (11th,12th and 14th greens) and his birdie putt on 18 forced the sudden-death playoff against UTA.

Etchenique made another jump up the leaderboard in the third round, carding the lowest score (66) of any ULM individual in the third round and climbing 12 spots to close in a seven-way tie for 15th at 3-under-par with a 210 (74-70-66). His scorecard featured nine pars and a team-best seven birdies, four of which came on the front nine.

Van Buynder recovered from a difficult second round to close with a 68 Tuesday, finishing tied for 25th at even-par 213 (69-76-68). The freshman emerged with 15 pars and three birdies, two of which came on the back nine at the sixth and seventh holes. Van Buynder's 68 marked his best third-round score of the season by three strokes.

Thibault Santigny climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard, closing in 39th place with a 3-over-par 216 (71-77-68). His final-round scorecard included seven birdies, which tied Etchenique's total, to go along with seven pars. Santigny's 68 matched the third-round scores posted by Fanonnel and Van Buynder.

"Our guys played a clutch round today, considering we needed to make a lot of birdies and keep it clean," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "All of the guys were tuned in all day. Andoni led the way with a 66 with G (Guillaume), Otto and Thibault shooting 68.

"G knew he had to make a birdie on the last hole of regulation – on the toughest hole on the course – and he did it. It was an awesome moment for the team."

ULM also received a solid performance from Michael Gilbert, who returned to the course in the third round to finish with a 1-over-par 72 and closed his two rounds with a 3-under 139. Gilbert wrapped up the final round of play with nine pars and four birdies, posting two on the front nine and two on the back nine.

ULM defeated UTA on the first playoff hole. The Warhawks (2-under) got birdie putts from Santigny and Van Buynder on the 18th green while the Mavericks managed even par.

Georgia Southern's Steven Fisk captured individual medalist honors with a one-hole playoff win over Arkansas State's Luka Naglic. Fisk (75-61-66) and Naglic (66-67-69) finished the 54 holes tied at 11-under-par 202.

Georgia Southern, which shot a school-record 21-under-par 263 Tuesday, finished the third round with a 31-under 821 (279-279-263). Coastal Carolina claimed second with a 27-under-par 825 (278-280-267), followed by Arkansas State at 16-under 836 (281-274-281).

The match-play semifinals are set with No. 1-seed Georgia Southern facing No. 4-seed ULM and No. 2-seed Coastal Carolina battling No. 3-seed Arkansas State. Match play begins Wednesday, April 24 at 7:30 a.m. CT.

"We have a tough morning match tomorrow against No. 1-seed Georgia Southern," Baldwin said. "Our guys are really fired up, and they're focused on winning the Championship."
