Fanonnel Fires Opening-Round 68 at NCAA Stanford Regional

Men's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. – ULM junior Guillaume Fanonnel fired a 2-under-par 68 in the opening round of the NCAA Stanford Regional on Monday, May 13 and sits in a six-way tie for ninth place on the individual leaderboard. Fanonnel, who ranks second among the 10 individual qualifiers at the regional, trails Southern Utah's Jake Vincent, who sits atop the overall leaderboard with a 6-under-par 64, by four shots.

Fanonnel got off to a fast start, recording birdies on three of the first four holes (first, second and fourth), and finished the front nine at 3-under 32. He managed one birdie on the back nine (11th hole) and followed with six-straight pars (12th through 17th holes) but bogeys at holes 10 and 18 left him at 1-over-par 36. Fanonnel, who completed the first round with four birdies and 12 pars, posted his seventh round in the 60s this season.

Of the 75 competing players Monday, Fanonnel was one of 21 golfers to break par (70) at the 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.

"(Guillaume) G played very well today," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "He got off to a nice start, being 3-under-par after 4 holes. Other than missing a couple short putts late, he was very satisfied with his day.

"Tomorrow is an important day for him. He needs to keep pace and position himself to be in the mix for the final round.

"The weather was beautiful and course in immaculate condition."

Fanonnel, who is paired with Vincent and Augusta University's Viktor Lindgren for the second round, will tee off Tuesday at 11:18 a.m. PT/1:18 p.m. CT.

The top five teams and low individual, not a member of an advancing team, from the Stanford Regional will qualify for the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 24-29 at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
