Fanonnel Climbs 13 Places Up Leaderboard, Finishes Tied for 33rd at NCAA Regional

STANFORD, Calif. – ULM junior Guillaume Fanonnel carded an even-par 70 in the third round of the NCAA Stanford Regional on Wednesday, May 15 to climb 13 places up the individual leaderboard into a five-way tied for 33rd at 4-over-par 214 (68-76-70).
 
His 54-hole total of 214 tied three other golfers for the second-best score among the field's 10 individual qualifiers. Fanonnel finished 10 strokes behind Utah's Kyler Dunkle, who shot a 6-under-par 204 (69-67-68) to advance to the NCAA Championships (May 24-29) in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
 
Fanonnel opened the final round with a birdie on the first hole and followed with three-straight pars. After a bogey on the fifth hole, he bounced back with a birdie on the seventh green, sandwiched between two pars. Fanonnel, who experienced another hiccup with a double bogey at the ninth hole, completed the front nine with a 1-over-par 36.
 
After another bogey at 10th hole, his score jumped to 2-over for the day. Fanonnel quickly regained his composure by recording three pars (11th, 14th and 15th) and three birdies (12th, 13th and 16th) over the next six holes. Following another bogey at No. 17, Fanonnel closed out the back nine with a 1-under 34 after scoring par on the 18th green.
 
His third-round scorecard included nine pars, five birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey. In his NCAA Regional debut, Fanonnel tallied 31 pars and 11 birdies over 54 holes.
 
"(Guillaume) G played OK today," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "He made some mistakes at the turn and needed to reset coming in. I'm proud that he was able to do that and shoot 70 today.
 
"Overall, G didn't achieve his goal this week, but he got some great experience in an elite field. He's looking forward to a great senior season."
