Griffith, Sellers Named AVCA Top Flight Award Winners

MONROE, La. – ULM seniors Catherine Griffith and Maile Sellers, who have compiled a 21-7 record as the team's No. 2 pairing, have been named Top Flight award winners by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Griffith and Sellers are one of 11 pairs from Flight 2 to receive AVCA Top Flight recognition.
 
In order for a pair to be eligible for the award, two athletes must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight number. Should that pair win at least 75 percent of their matches, regardless of the overall result of the dual, those athletes will achieve AVCA Top Flight status.
 
It marks the second year in a row that Griffith has earned AVCA Top Flight honors. In 2018, she teamed up with Rebecca Brown to post a 15-4 record (.789), becoming one of eight pairs from Flight 3 selected for honors.
 
Griffith and Sellers (22-9 combined record overall) continue preparation to compete in the 2019 USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships, scheduled for May 8-11 in Hermosa Beach, California.
 
Griffith and Sellers, one of 21 pairs chosen to participate in the May 8 Qualifier Tournament, are the No. 33 seed overall. A total of 45 pairs will compete in the four-day event, with the top 24 seeds beginning play in the Main Draw Tournament on May 9.
 
Griffith and Sellers (No. 83) are currently ranked among the nation's Top 100 Pablo beach pairs. ULM's senior duo closed out the regular season by winning four of their last five matches. Griffith and Sellers put together a pair of seven-match winning streaks during the 2019 season.
