CLINTON, Miss. – The ULM cross country units opened the 2019 season with a pair of Top-5 finishes as the men's team claimed third and the women's team finished fourth in the Mississippi College Season Opener on Friday.
Three individuals on the ULM men's cross country team placed inside the Top-15, including Kiprotich Mitei, who finished second among all individuals with a time of 16:29.58. Teammate Eric Hawkins, with a time of 17:21.92, enjoyed the second-best time of any Warhawk in the men's race as he finished seventh. Gabriel Wilcox, who completed the course in a time of 17:32.72, was just outside the Top-10 with an 11th-place outing.
Jaylen Wade, competing in his first collegiate race, closed in 27th with a time of 18:42.81. Freshman teammate Adrian Harris was less than two seconds behind (18:44.18), placing 28th. Cohren Holley completed the Warhawk unit with a 62nd-place performance in a time of 24:31.01.
The Warhawk women, who finished fourth in the event, also placed three runners inside the Top-15. The top finisher for ULM was Edith Jebet, who closed the race in sixth at a time of 16:28.38. Angela Jepchirchir was the next runner to cross the line for the Warhawks, placing seventh, in a time of 16:37.23. Freshman Kaye-Loni Bowden wrapped up the first race of her collegiate career 15th at a mark of 17:37.46.
ULM's unit was rounded out by the tandem of Trinity Walker (18:46.13) and Allison Tyler (18:54.67), who finished 28th and 29th, respectively.
The Warhawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they head to Louisiana Tech to take part in the Mook 4 Invitational.
