Walia Locked In Three-Way Tie for Fourth at South Alabama Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Jahaanvie Walia, a junior standout on the ULM women's golf team, wrapped up the opening round of the South Alabama Intercollegiate in a three-way tie for fourth after carding a 3-under-par 69 at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
 
The Warhawks are 11th in the team standings with a 10-over-par score of 298, 14 shots off the pace established by team standings leader UAB (285, -3). North Florida sits in second, three shots behind the Blazers with an even par 288.
 
Walia, who is tied alongside Siti Shaari (South Alabama) and Sara Zmikova (Houston Baptist), began her round with three birdies and three pars on the front nine. She followed that with eight pars and a birdie on the 18th green, closing with a score of 69.
 
Shani White concluded the first round of the season in a 13-way tie for 30th after firing a 2-over-par score of 74. White began with eight pars on the front nine before coming through with four pars and a pair of birdies on the back nine. Her first birdie of the afternoon came on the 13th green and her second came three holes later.
 
Among the 13 players in a deadlock for 30th with White is ULM's Line Petersen, who is participating as an individual. Petersen's first round of her collegiate career resulted in a score of 2-over-par 74. She was responsible for six pars and a birdie, which came on the eighth green. That was followed by seven pars and one birdie on the back nine.
 
Eva Bjornsdottir owned the third-best score for the ULM team, concluding the first round with a 5-over-par score of 77. The Reykjavic, Iceland native got off to a great start with a birdie on her first hole of the day before ending the first round with five pars. She added four pars and a birdie on the back nine to finish in an eight-way tie for 60th.
 
Sharmaine Rapisura, who finished in a six-way tie for 69th after finishing 6-over-par, snagged four pars on the front nine. After making the turn at the 10th hole, Rapisura emerged with three straight birdies and came through with four pars for an even score.
 
Angela Tocco rounded out the ULM card with a 10-over-par score of 82, resulting in a three-way tie for 87th. Tocco was responsible for seven pars, including four on the back nine, and one birdie, which came at the sixth hole.
 
The second round of the tournament continues on Sunday, Sept. 15.
