MOBILE, Ala. – ULM junior women's golfer
Jahaanvie Walia remains in contention for her second individual title as a Warhawk after carding a second round 73 at the South Alabama Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. Walia is locked in a five-way tie for fifth, seven shots off the pace set by leader Tia Teiniketo (UAB), who owns a 9-under-par score of 135 through the first two rounds.
Walia, who slipped one spot on the individual leaderboard, posted the best second round score (73) of any ULM competitor. She opened her day at the 10
th hole, finishing off the front nine with seven pars and a birdie, which came on the 16
th green. Walia's (69-73—142) back nine included eight pars, finishing 1-over-par for the round. Walia is tied for fifth along with Sydney Shrader (North Florida), Sara McKevitt (North Florida), Grayson Gladden (Arkansas State) and Anna Claire Little (Troy).
Teinketo grabbed the individual lead after finishing 4-under-par with a round of 68. She came through with five birdies and three pars in her first nine holes.
Shani White replicated her opening round score (74) on Sunday afternoon, and moved up one spot to 29
th in the process. The New Zealand native wrapped up her front nine with six pars before closing with two birdies and six pars on the back nine. White heads into the final round in a nine-way tie for 29
th with a 4-over-par score of 148 (74-74).
Line Peterson owns the third-best score of any ULM golfer heading into Monday's finale, competing as an individual in the event. Peterson closed out the afternoon with a round of 78, moving her to 8-over-par with a 152 (74-78), where she is in a five-way tie for 56
th. Her scorecard included 12 pars, seven of which came on the front nine.
Eva Bjornsdottir closed out the second round with a 77 and is one of four players in the tournament with a 10-over-par score of 154. The Warhawk junior came through with 13 pars on the afternoon, carding seven on the back nine.
The ULM team card also includes
Sharmaine Rapisura and
Angela Tocco, who are 75
th and 83
rd, respectively, after two rounds. Rapisura (78-79—157) is 13-over-par despite emerging with three birdies and nine pars in the second round. Tocco (82-77—159) has carded a 15-over-par through the first two rounds of action. She closed out Sunday with 12 pars and a birdie, which came on the sixth hole.
The final round of action takes place on Monday.
