MONROE, La. – Following a runner-up finish at the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, senior Guillaume Fanonnel was named as the first Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week for the 2019-20 season, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon.
Fanonnel was fantastic in his first outing of the season at TPC Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. After qualifying for NCAA Regionals as an individual last year, Fanonnel picked up where he left off in May. He opened with a 3-under-par 69 and a 4-under-par 68 in the first two rounds on Monday before capping off the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 208, one shot off of individual champion Nolan Ray of Lipscomb. It is the first runner-up finish of Fanonnel's ULM career.
Fanonnel finished second in the tournament in par 4 scoring at 3.93, tied for second in par 5 scoring at 4.58 and tied for third in par 3 scoring at 2.92. He tallied the second-most birdies on the tournament with 14.
"G wants to be inside the top 100 players in college golf this year," said Director of Golf Tim Baldwin. "He wants to put himself in contention every week and be a legitimate threat every time he tees it up. We are hoping his attitude and drive for success is contagious with the team."
The Warhawks are back on the course Monday at the UAB Invitational at Greystone in Birmingham, Alabama.
