Men's Golf
MONROE, La. – After a week in which the ULM men's golf team placed seventh in its first tournament of 2019-20 and sophomore Guillaume Fanonnel claimed the best individual finish of his career (runner-up) to along with Sun Belt Golfer of the Week honors, the Warhawks continue their fall slate at the Graeme McDowell Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, beginning on Monday, Sept. 23.

The two-day, three-round event takes place at the Greystone Golf and Country Club, a 36-hole golf course that was designed by Bob Cupp and Hubert Green. The Founders Course was named as the No. 1 stop by players, officials and media members of the Senior PGA in a poll by Sports Illustrated. The course will play par-72 and 7,293 yards in distance.

The 19-team field includes Arkansas State, High Point, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, North Florida, Nicholls State, Samford, South Carolina, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Troy, UT Chattanooga, Western Kentucky, Winthrop, Wofford and tournament host UAB. The participants will play 36 holes on Monday before returning to the course for the 18-hole third round on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Here's ULM's starting lineup for the Graeme McDowell Invitational: No. 1 senior Guillaume Fanonnel (69.33 scoring average), No. 2 senior Joao Girao (76.67), No. 3 senior Andoni Etchenique (76.00), No. 4 sophomore Otto Van Buynder (first appearance of the fall) and No. 5 sophomore Keegan McLachlan (74.67).

LOOKING BACK AT UTSA/LONESTAR INVITATIONAL: Fanonnel was named as the first Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week for the 2019-20 season, the conference office announced last Thursday after finishing as runner-up at the UTSA/Lonestar Invitational.

Fanonnel was fantastic in his first outing of the season at TPC Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. After qualifying for NCAA Regionals as an individual last year, Fanonnel picked up where he left off in May. He opened with a 3-under-par 69 and a 4-under-par 68 in the first two rounds on Monday before capping off the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 8-under-par 208, one shot behind individual champion Nolan Ray of Lipscomb. It is the first runner-up finish of Fanonnel's ULM career.

Fanonnel finished second in the tournament in par 4 scoring at 3.93, tied for second in par 5 scoring at 4.58 and tied for third in par 3 scoring at 2.92. He tallied the second-most birdies on the tournament with 14.

ULM closed out the event seventh in the team standings with a combined score of 35-over-par that resulted in an 899 (288-299-312).
