BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ULM men's golf pair of
Guillaume Fanonnel and
Andoni Etchenique were among the Top-25 performers at the Graeme McDowell Invitational, which drew to a close on Tuesday afternoon at at the Greystone Golf & Country Club.
Fanonnel, who finished the three-round event in a five-way tie for 17th, enjoyed his second Top-20 outing of the season. Fanonnel, who fired a 70 in the third round, closed with an even-par score of 216 (73-73-70). He climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard by virtue of five birdies, including three on the front nine, along with 11 pars.
Fanonnel was nine shots off the pace established by Western Kentucky's Linus Lo, who took home the individual crown with a 9-under-par score of 207 (69-69-69). Four individuals, including Zan Luka Stim (Arkansas State), Caleb Proveaux (South Carolina), Connor Futrell (Troy) and Nils Dobrunz (Nicholls State), ended the tournament in a tie for second at 6-under-par.
ULM finished just outside the Top-10 in the team standings, closing 11th overall with a 29-over-par score of 893 (293-297-303). The Warhawks were edged by Western Kentucky for 10th by one stroke, while North Florida earned the team championship with a 14-under-par score of 850 (288-276-286).
Etchenique posted his first Top-25 outing of the season, capping off the tournament in a three-way tie for 24th, with a 2-over-par score of 218 (69-73-76). Etchenique finished off the third round with 12 pars and a birdie, which came on the 11th green.
Otto Van Buynder put together the third-best score (230) among the five ULM participants. Van Buynder, who came through with rounds of 72, 78 and 80, finished 14-over-par en route to a five-way tie for 69th. Van Buynder emerged with three birdies, two coming on the front nine, along with seven pars.
The tandem of
Joao Girao and
Keegan McLachlan, who finished 82nd and 92nd, respectively, completed the ULM card. Girao concluded the final round with 13 pars, while McLachlan posted 11 pars.
