MONROE, La. – The ULM women's golf team returns to the links on Saturday, Sept. 28, when the Warhawks head to Palm Beach, Calif., to take part in the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate.
The two-day, three-round tournament will take place at the Classic Club, which is a nationally recognized championship course designed by Arnold Palmer and a host site of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Bob Hope Classic. The course itself consists of a rolling terrain, wide landing areas, 30 acres of water features along with 14 bridges and an abundance of pine trees.
ULM, who is one of 11 teams participating, will be looking to maintain the momentum established at the South Alabama Intercollegiate after a 12-day break. Among those participating include Cal State-Bakersfield, Long Beach, Southern Utah, Hawaii, UT Arlington and UTEP.
The Warhawks closed out their last tournament 10th in the team standings but were led individually by junior
Jahaanvie Walia, who became the first winner of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Week honor for the 2019-20 season after taking third place.
Walia finished the tournament with a 5-under-par score of 211. After opening play with a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday, Walia finished 1-over-par on Sunday at 73 and entered the final round Monday in a tie for fifth place on the individual leaderboard. Walia was one of just three golfers to shoot a final round score of 69 to move up the leaderboard and finish third overall.
This weekend's unit will also consist of
Shani White,
Eva Bjornsdottir,
Sharmaine Rapisura and Line Peterson. All four of those individuals took part in the South Alabama Invitational with White topping the foursome with a 7-over-par score of 223, finishing in a tie for 35th.
