RUSTON, La. – Freshman Eliana Battle won her first collegiate career individual championship as the ULM women's cross country team claimed three of the top four spots to defeat Louisiana Tech in the Mook 4 Cross Country dual Sunday at the LA Tech Farm.
Hurricane Delta forced the event to be postponed from Saturday to Sunday, leaving ULM and LA Tech as the only two schools competing in the event.
Battle, who finished second at the Warhawk Invitational last week, claimed the women's 4K title in 16:07. Teammate and senior Benadine Chelimo was right with her, also posting a time of 16:07 to take second place.
Senior Sharon Jerono placed fourth in 17:11. Sophomore Kaye-Loni Bowden was seventh in 18:11. Sophomore Kirstin Elrod was right behind Bowden in eighth place at 18:14.
ULM won the event with 22 points. LA Tech tallied 33 points.
In the men's 4-mile race, senior Kevin Dietrich led the Warhawks in ninth place in 23:13. Senior Eric Hawkins was 11th in 25:39. Sophomore Adrian Harris placed 12th in 25:40. Sophomore Jaylen Wade was 13th in 26:13. Freshman Reid Guirlando was 14th in 27:32. Senior Logan Malone was right behind Guirlando in 15th in 27:32.
The Warhawks are back on the course Saturday at the Little Rock Invitational.
