MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team hosts the Warhawk Invitational Friday and Saturday at Heard Stadium. Action begins at 10 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
Tournament Draws
The tournament features players from ULM, the Ragin' Cajuns and Grambling. Competitors are assigned to one of three singles brackets: gold, burgundy and black. There is one doubles bracket.
"I think we're very excited," head tennis coach Jessica Giuggioli said. "I think the girls are looking forward to competing in front of the home crowd. Hopefully we get a lot of people out there to support us."
Sophomore Hala Badwy and senior Drousile Dzeubou will compete in the gold bracket for ULM. Badwy will open play against the Ragin' Cajuns' Christina Jordan, while Dzeubou will face off with Grambling's Ana Ochoa. Badwy lost her three matches at No. 1 flight at the UCA Fall Invitational, while Dzeubou was 1-2.
Junior Jimena Garbino and senior Madalina Grigoriu are slated to play in the burgundy bracket. Garbino faces the Ragin' Cajuns' Isabella Kierkegaard in the first round. Grigoriu drew a first-round bye and will play in the semifinals at noon on Friday against the winner of a match between Grambling's Danna Galeano and the Ragin' Cajuns' Lucie Raquin. Garbino lost her three singles matches at UCA, while Grigoriu won all three of her matches.
Sophomore Jelena Lopicic and freshman Daniela Hernandez will play in the black bracket. Lopicic faces Grambling's Natalie Malone in the first round. Hernandez has a first-round bye and plays in a noon semifinal against either the Ragin' Cajuns' Anna Harvey or Grambling's Paige Stanford. Lopicic posted a 1-2 mark at the UCA Fall Invitational, while Hernandez was 0-3.
In doubles, Grigoriu and Lopicic will team up for a play-in round match against Grambling's Galeano and Mikaila Coleman at 2 p.m. It is the first time for Grigoriu and Lopicic to team up this fall. Grigoriu teamed with Garbino to go 2-1 at UCA, while Lopicic worked with Dzeubou in the opening tournament.
Dzeubou and Hernandez will play together at 2 p.m. against the Ragin' Cajuns' Harvey and Babette Burgersdijk. Hernandez played with Badwy at the UCA Invitational.
The final ULM doubles pairing is Badwy and Garbino. They will meet the Ragin' Cajuns' Lucie Raquin and Dana Radovanovic at 2 p.m.
