MONROE, La. – The ULM men's golf team concludes its fall season at the Little Rock Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Chenal Country Club's Founders Course in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Founders Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Jones is the creator of more than 125 courses worldwide, including Monterey and Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, California. The course opened in 1990 and features Zoysia fairways and Tif Eagle Bermuda greens. The course covers 7,115 yards and has been ranked as the top course in Arkansas by Golf Digest.
ULM will tee off from the third hole at 8 a.m. Monday. The Warhawks will play 36 holes on Monday.
The Warhawks are coming off their first team victory of the fall, a co-championship with tournament-host Middle Tennessee at the Intercollegiate at The Grove Tuesday in College Grove, Tennessee. Senior Guillaume Fanonnel won his second consecutive individual title, tying two other golfers for the crown.
Fanonnel leads ULM's entry at Little Rock, and is joined by fellow senior Andoni Etchenique, sophomore Otto Van Buynder, freshman Melan Dhaubhadel and sophomores Michael Gilbert and Keegan McLachlan.
Fanonnel won the individual championship at the Graeme McDowell Invitational and the Intercollegiate at The Grove. He leads the Warhawks in stroke average (70.63), par-5 scoring (4.46) and greens in regulation (.771). He already ranks as the career leader in scoring average at ULM at 72.35. He needs one more tournament win to tie the career tournament wins record set by Gustaf Kocken. Fanonnel is the first ULM men's golfer to claim back-to-back tournament titles since Kocken in the fall of 2010.
Etchenique has posted three Top-10 finishes this fall after tying for ninth at the Intercollegiate at The Grove. He also placed second at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and third at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. He is second on the team in scoring average at 70.75. Etchenique leads the Warhawks in first round average (69.33), final-round average (70.67), par-4 scoring (3.97), birdies (34), pars per round (11.38), fewest bogeys per round (1.38), and birdie conversion (.337).
Van Buynder is coming off his best performance of the fall, posting a 1-under-par 143 to tie for ninth at the Intercollegiate at The Grove. He is third on the team in scoring average (73.25) and is tied for the team lead in pars per round (11.38) with Etchenique. Van Buynder also leads the team in average putts at 27.75.
Dhaubhadel finished the Intercollegiate at The Grove at 8-over-par 152. His best tournament of the fall was at the season-opening Jim Rivers Intercollegiate where he finished at 3-over-par 219 to tie for 22nd. He is fourth on the team in scoring average at 74.75. He leads the team in fairways hit at .835.
Gilbert returns to the course for the first time since the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, where he shot a 234. He played in three tournaments last season with a 76.67 scoring average.
McLachlan shot a 6-over-par 150 at the Intercollegiate at The Grove, but his final round 2-over-par 74 was the final score included in ULM's team total for the round, helping the Warhawks claim their first team championship of the season. His best finish was at the Jim Rivers Intercolleigate, where he shot a 7-over-par 223 to tie for 37th.
